January Meeting

SPIRIT OF THE MARATHON Thursday January 24, 7:30 pm

NCM Fathom, in partnership with Active.com and Wasserman Media Group, is proud to present “Spirit of the Marathon” on the big screen in high-definition with Cinema Surround Sound on Thursday, January 24th at 7:30PM (local). Don’t miss your chance to see the Chicago International Film Festival’s “Audience Choice Award” winner!

“Spirit of the Marathon” is the first ever non-fiction feature film to capture the drama and essence of the famed 26.2 mile running event. Filmed on four continents, the production brings together a diverse cast of amateur athletes and marathon luminaries. As six unique stories unfold, each runner prepares for and ultimately faces the challenge of the Chicago Marathon. More than a sports program, “Spirit of the Marathon” is an inspirational journey of perseverance and personal triumph; a spectacle that will be embraced by runners and non-runners alike.

Four years in the making, “Spirit of the Marathon” is the collaborative effort of three-time Academy Award winner Mark Jonathon Harris, Telly Award winner and marathon runner Jon Dunham and producer/marathoner Gwendolen Twist.

We will be meeting at the Charles Towne Square Stadium 18 Cinema North Charleston SC

Tickets may be purchased (I recommend in advance) at the theatre or by going online here

December Meeting

Thursday December 13, 6:30 pm

The Charleston Running Club year-end party and election meeting was graciously hosted last night by Bratton and Gail Fennell. Approximately 50 members were present. The club supplied beverages and main dishes of turkey and a roast, while members brought side items and desserts.
Included in the program was a presentation of a $9,000 check, raised at the "Charleston 9" Memorial Run in September, to the Firemen's Fund. Present and accepting on behalf of the Charleston Fire Department was Battalion Chief Joseph Roberts.
The election results are as follows (congratulations! ): President: Larry Schrecker VP Programs: Michael Desrosiers VP Races: Chuck Magera Newsletter: Rives Poe (along with a gang of 4 to assist her ("Poe's Posse") Equipment: Irv Batten Treasurer: Bratton Fennell Secretary: Greg Brown Membership: Dan Clapper Following the election we had a random drawing (of about 25 items) featuring gift baskets from the Charleston Bicycle Company & Running Shop, comp entries to The Bridge Run, entries to The Festival of Lights, and CRC shirts. Thank you very much to those who contributed gifts; to Dan Clapper and Greg Brown for conducting the election; to Larry, Chuck and Greg for doing most of the work & heavy lifting; and a very special thanks to the Fennell family for hosting the party!
One of the big changes expected for the coming year is a migration towards making the club more "web-based": in its activities, and particularly in distribution/ sharing of information (including the newsletter).
We are anxiously awaiting reports on whether or not the kegs were drained...
